Tips for Your Language Class

Thursday, June 11 |

If you are planning on or are already taking a language class take try the One Semester of Spanish - Love Song approach and make learning fun. No I'm not bilingual; I'm barely fluent in English but I do know how to study. So I thought I'd share a few tips that will help you ace your exams and become fluent in a new language:

  • Read ahead- Prepare for class by staying ahead of the lesson plan. Read and practice pronunciation for each corresponding lesson just before class.
  • Find a study buddy- Form a study group or find a study partner to help you practice dialogue and to quiz each other.
  • Figure out Your Motivation- Ask yourself why you want to learn a new language?Having a good motivation will help you to work hard.
  • Learn One Concept At A Time- Make sure you learn each concept thoroughly before moving on to the next one.
  • Supplement Your Textbook- If you had trouble with a concept go to the library and get a books, CD, or DVD to help with your studies.
  • Expose yourself to the language as much as possible- Watch movies, read books go and visit places where there are native speakers.

To entire article, Tips for Your Language Class, can be found on TCB Thursday. There you can see the 2nd Semester of Spanish, Spanish Love Song starring Erik Estrada.

The Five Languages of Love

Wednesday, June 10 |

Sometimes "Saying I love you" is not enough. In the book The Five Love Languages Gary Chapman articulated how people give and receive love. The book is a helpful and interesting resource. The five languages are easy to figure out:

  1. Words of Affirmation
  2. Quality Time
  3. Receiving Gifts
  4. Acts of Service
  5. Physical Touch

On the Five Love Languages site Gary writes:
It is important to remember that this love language is different for everyone. What type of touch makes you feel secure is not necessarily what will make your partner happy. It is important to learn each other’s dialects. That way you can make the most of your hugging, kissing, and other physical contacts.

What is your love language? Which of the five love languages to you express your love to others most often?

"Anyone who has kids understands that it takes a lot of skill and a little finesse to get your kids to eat their veggies. Most kids would prefer to dine on a strict diet of sugary and processed goodness. Pleading seems in vain because they tune out when you say, "Please eat your vegetables. They're good for you." Lucky for me I had a mom who did not force food; instead she offered huge portions of veggies her kids liked and tried to sneak..."

This is an excerpt from How to get you children to eat their veggies and the entire post can be found Wellness Wednesday.

I don't have tots but I do have a teenager and a husband that are not keen on most veggies. I purchased Deceptively Delicious and enjoyed the delicious recipes that are appealing kids and adults a like. Just remember to always show visible veggies and fruit at each meal to get kids use to eating veggies voluntarily. If they refuse to eat the veggies no worries, they will be getting the vitamins from the hidden veggies in the main entree.

Kids can learn to love their vegetable, just get creative.

Kids and Exercise

|

Maybe your workout routine is great and your in great shape; what about your kids? Kids today move a lot less then they use and it takes a toll on their bodies. Avoid future health problems by making working out a family activity. Kids love playing so get creative and incorporate recess all year long:

* Rollerblade or riding bikes together instead of driving for short distances.
* Take turns or walk the dog together two to three times a day.
* Limit time spent watching TV, on the computer or playing video games
* Create a chore list that includes yardwork and other housework.
* Family exercise: go to local park, play sports, dance together for 1/2 hour.
* Keep kids hydration by having them drink water before and during exercise.
* Play games like tag and follow the leader.

I dare you to watch this video and follow along

Okay I'm so sorry that I did that to you. I just want to get in touch with your inner child and so that you are will enjoy exercising with your kids.

Computer Victory

Friday, June 5 |

Let there be sound, and it is was good. I have had ongoing computer problems for months now. I was hoping of the best but months with no sound left me a little defeated and wondering if my machine would ever pull through. When I finally concluded that old Bessie needed to be put down my hubby said with confidence that he would fix it. So we bought a new hard drive and updated our driver and now my computer is as good as new.

I gave a lot of credit to my husband. My husband was proud of me for learning quickly and helping him, but we both give credit to our Higher Power for Bessie is definitely blessed. Today Bessie was born again and I give praises to Him who answers prayer. Please don't think that I am mocking, my tone is sincere. Try to work with a computer that was barely functioning and worrying that it would not pull though, that a lot of money would go to replacing it was a burden. Now I can say a grateful HALLELUJAH.

Terminator 4- Salvation

Tuesday, June 2 |

After reading Amusing Bunni's post I new I had to see Terminator 4 Salvation for myself. Gambit was thrilled, and surprised that I wanted to see it. We'd planned to see Star Trek and Terminator 4 but we ran a little behind and did not want to risk of missing the trailers so we decided to see one movie instead. Terminator was the next movie showing so we put Star Trek on hold once again, but the Terminate 4 quickly killed all my disappointment. The movie made me cringe and jump and clap; I looked more like I was a sports game than at the movies. If you want to know more please read Tap The Inner Bad Ass; it's a fun review by Amusing Bunni. I bet she'll have you running to the theater.

Have you seen Terminator yet? What did you think?

WWYD is a way for me to display the wisdom and discernment of my readers. In these exercises I will ask my readers to imagine themselves in a specific situation and share what they think their natural reaction would be. Next imagine that a friend has gone through the same situation and ask you for advice, what would you say to them?

Got it? Okay great please read on?

WWYD
You are at home at 12:40 when you get a call from your daughter's school. The secretary tells you that your 17 year accidentally cut herself on a nail and that the nurse could not get it to stop bleeding. They ask you to come pick her up from school. When you pick her up she seems okay but you can see a spot of blood on her pants. You ask her if she how bad the cut is and she reassures you she is okay, so you bring her home.

Once home you ask her how she hurt herself and she says that she accidentally cut herself with a pocket knife that she got form her ex boyfriend. You ask to see the cut and she shows you two small and superficial cuts on her hip. After an hour and several band aid she is still bleeding..........

What would you do? What would you say?

"The practice of meditating to improve your mood has been increasing in popularity in Western countries, and as high stress levels are a problem with many modern workplaces, what better subject to investigate than one that helps people relax? We headed out to visit Krishnan at the Ananda Los Angeles Meditation Center, who gave us a few tips on meditation techniques, and Swami Atmarupananda at the Trabuco Ramakrishna Monastery, who spoke to us about the lifestyle of living as a monk meditating three times a day."

The quote above was taken from mahalodotcom's YouTube channel.
