Relaxation Meditation

Monday, August 31 |

It is so easy to meditate when you are staying in a cottage by yourself on vacation, but I have found it difficult to clear my mind at home. First the distractions are hard to tune out and my mind, that is use to constant stimulus, bombards me with constant thoughts. How can you focus on breathe when you are trying to figure if your mom is going to be okay, will Cinna miss home, what to get hubby for his b-day etc...

I just read an article titled Relaxation Meditation that talks about the basics of meditation. In it Buddha of Hollywood shares that while focusing on your breath in the lotus position is popular, he prefers lying on bed listening to an OM Chant.

If you interested in reading the full article you can find it on Buddha of Hollywood, which is ageat blog.

The article ends with these words

"This kind of meditation is not much of a spiritual journey but it is an essential step in preparing your mind to become that vehicle of exploration.
You may choose to stay at this level and enjoy all the health benefits of meditation.
Or you may choose to go further in your practice and step into the ocean of spirituality."

Simple Meditation Techniques, and Lifestyle Tips

Monday, June 1 |

"The practice of meditating to improve your mood has been increasing in popularity in Western countries, and as high stress levels are a problem with many modern workplaces, what better subject to investigate than one that helps people relax? We headed out to visit Krishnan at the Ananda Los Angeles Meditation Center, who gave us a few tips on meditation techniques, and Swami Atmarupananda at the Trabuco Ramakrishna Monastery, who spoke to us about the lifestyle of living as a monk meditating three times a day."

The quote above was taken from mahalodotcom's YouTube channel.

Guided Meditation

Monday, May 18 |

Mediation is a great way to achieve clarity. Still it is easy to get caught up in complicated techniques instead of focusing on the purpose of meditation.I practice meditation to gain awareness, to increase moments of mindfulness and all the benefits that come with it. I also meditate to spend time being quiet so that my mind and spirit can relax. It is also a practice to connect spiritually to the world around me. Focusing on the technique is not true mediation; thoughts are still working overtime even though the body is still and quiet.

When I am in a quiet and peaceful environment I find meditation easy, but in my noisy and busy life I'm so easily distracted. Meditation with guided videos is a great way to cut out the distractions of life and to remember to focus on your breathe and being. The is a great way to build up your focus and then you should find that you will be able to consistently meditate on your own through out each day. To see more videos on the meaning of true meditation go to The True Meaning of Meditation or visit Mental Monday here on LL&L.

This video is a short guided meditation designed to teach the some basic key points and enable you to get in touch with your true self so that you can manifest all of your dreams and desires.

Getting To Know You

Monday, May 11 |

I believe that meditation is the way to get to know who you truly are. I don't believe that you necessarily need to cross your legs and study formal meditative practices, instead you need to spend quiet time to help unclutter your mind so that you can have a clear picture of the your that lies inside. Most people don't spend enough time with themselves so they built up a false sense of who they are based of of labels, titles and other peoples opinions. It can you leave you feeling lost or desperately attached to the way you think things are supposed to be.

I have many moments were I struggle with anxiety, self doubt and even depression. Then I can go the other extreme and become overly secure, arrogant or spurred on by blind optimism. My answer to maintain my best and stable self is through meditation. Today I posted a response to a terrific article titled Save Me. To read my response or to get the link to the original article please visit Mental Monday.

Do you believe that the practice of psychology and therapy is the means for mental stabilty or is it mostly flawed? What role do you think that mediation plays in self confidence?

Thich Nhat Hanh- Mindful Movements

Monday, May 4 |

I was first introduced to the teachings of Zen master Thich Nhat Hanh last year. My husband rented a cottage for a week so the I could have a sabbatical that I've been talking about for over 5 years. I preparation I for my vacation I went to the library and took out lot of books and a few CDs on meditation and on mindfulness. I learned a lot from Thich Nhat Hanh; I learned that mindfulness is to be achieved in every activity. By focusing your mind on the what you are doing each moment of the day you will be aware, you enjoy your task and you are efficient. When you wash the dishes, when you cook, when you walk you should be aware. So meditation is not always sitting with crossed legs alone in quite room, but the ultimate goal is to become and maintain mindfulness through out your life. Mindfulness restore you, and you in turn restore peace to the world around you. On this video the renowned teacher of mindfulness meditation guides you through a series of gentle exercises created specifically to cultivate a joyful awareness of the body and breath.

Shame On Me Meditation

Monday, April 27 |

I am feeling slightly annoyed with myself today. I'm having major computer problems agian and I don't know why. I wonder if it is because I tried to download some music, or maybe it because I trust everyone's links on Twitter. I don't know what happened but I do feel like whatever th e reason was its my fault and I don't know what to do. Last time this happened hubby added more software security on the computer but I don't know how to handle it myself and I'm a little bummed. I am finally getting to a place where I understand the need to become organized, self reliant and efficient; this just feel like a set back that should have been avoided.

I feel scared that the post that I promised to publish will be lost and I will not keep my word. Scared that we will have to spend money to fix the computer. Scared that I will lose important files and post that I have been working hard on. The funny thing is that today's topic on Mental Monday was going to be about ego and attachment. It was a response to a post on  Pursuit of Something Real, a wonderful blog that helps you re-examine your life in a none judgemental way. I've written a response to the post called Save Me, but because of my computer problems I will postpone the post. Instead please read Save Me,written by Lazy King of Bored...Get Unbored and take the time to respond for yourself. If all goes well I will publish my response next week.

Do you ever get down on yourself fro making mistakes or not knowing how to fix a problem? What do you do to get yourself out of self esteem funk? Did you like this meditation video?

Meditation Hesitation

Monday, April 6 |

I think that I need to meditate everday but I forget about it. The to do list gets longer and the time to just be gets shorter. I forget that I am more productive after meditation so I believe that I just have a hard timne taking time for myself.

Can you relate? Do you ever feel lazy if you are not busy? Do you fear that not using your brian for even a few minutes my hinder you intelligence or you memory some how? I have these thoughts when I do not meditate often,, but when I can let go and make a commit to meditate everything seems to fall into place. Meditation, is different from laws of attraction in that you don't get evrything you hope for. When I mediatate I am not as concerend with what happens in life. I know that whatever comes my way I will be able to deal with it. What ever I have I will be grateful for. Whatever I am I will accept with joy. Meditation makes the world and all of my scircumstances an educational oppurtunity. It slow me down from feeling the need to judge things as bad or good but instead just observe with fear, worry, or anger.

Why do I forget to meditate? My educated guess is that I still think that my ego is what makes me special and strong. My life has included stress and attachments so long maybe I worry what will happen to me if I walk around peaceful all the time. My thoughts tell me that it is good to worry because it motivates you to get things done. I know that is not true, worry depresses me eventually and makes it hard to problem solve. So let me take some time to be still and lets see what happens>

Introduction To Mindfulness

Monday, March 30 |

This is just a snippet from a post on Mental Monday.

"I stopped going to church about 2 years ago...I  understand that it is imporant to meditate and add awarness to your daily life.  Since I don't have a spiritual guru handy I look for ways to learn the basics.  One day I visted a blog called Country Contemplative and I came upon this presentation byJohn Kabat-Zinn. Just to warn you the video is 1 hour and 12 minute long presentation. If you are interested in mindfulness and meditation I think it is a great begining. "

Okay, so I don't know my chakra from my aura but I'm learning. For me, mediation is key to joy and stability. Though I am relatively new to the concepts of ego and stillness I think I have been meditating for years without knowing. Of course there was no form or structure to it but sitting still and resting my mind have helped me through many tough times. I believe that I reflexively mediate when I feel mad or scared. I suspect that becoming still was a part of helping me through The Man That Changed My Life. However the little day to day stuff is what seems to rock my world: Cinna did not do the dishes, hubby did not pay the bill, and I did not call grandma for her birthday. I live my life fluctuating from indescribable peace to a heightened state of anxiety. My poor hubby does not know what to do with moody girl, and I don't know what to do either.

My answer to everything 5 years ago was prayer, recently I've added meditation to that. Thank God for books and YouTube, it is a wealth of information at your finger tips. So even though I don't know what I'm doing yet I can read or listen to others who can teach me what I need to know. So if you could use a little more centering, peace or joy in your life visit LL&L on Monday's and participate in Mediation Morning. You won't regret it.
